We are pleased to announce the release of the nineteenth issue of Tadabbur Journal, dated Muharram 1447 AH, corresponding to July 2025 CE. The issue includes specialized Quranic research in the field of Quranic contemplation, covering diverse topics such as: the concept of interpretation (ta’wil), defensive projects, the thematic unity of Surah An-Nazi’at in light of the science of coherence, and human obstinacy in the Holy Quran. It also features academic reports on theses, books, and conferences. The journal—by the grace of Allah—is indexed in regional and international indexing platforms, including DOAJ, WorldCat, Google Scholar, and others.
The research (The Concept of “Ta’weel” in The Holy Quran( is a descriptive and comparative study of the term “Ta’weel”, which aims to clarify the Quranic concept of the term and differentiate it from other concepts.
The research consists of an intro and 5 sections, as follows: Identifying the occurrence of the term “Ta’weel” in the Quran, The linguistic mean of “Ta’weel”, The Quranic concept of “Ta’weel”, The term “Ta’weel” as used by "Al-salaf", A term & concept related to “Ta’weel” which are “Tafsir” and “Al-Ta’weel Al-istelahi” according to fundamentalists and jurists.
Outcomes:
- The term “Ta’weel” has been mentioned 17 times in 7 Surahs.
- The context most linked to the term “Ta’weel” in the Quran was that of dream interpretations, in Surah Yosuf.
- The term “Ta’weel” in the Quran relates to the unseen and unconcealed “Al-ghayb”.
- The alignment of the concept of “Ta’weel” between Arabic, the Quran, Hadith & Al-Salaf.
- The overlap of the terms “Tafsir” and “Ta’weel” in indicating meaning.
- The distinction between “Ta’weel” in the Quran and the term as used by fundamentalists and jurists.
The study concluded with a research recommendation: The importance of identifying the Quranic terms used regularly in current Quranic studies which may affect the understanding of the Quran’s meaning and interpretation, then conducting descriptive & comparative studies of these terms, with the aim of clarifying & distinguishing the Quranic concepts to achieve its purpose.

This research aims to extract practical insights from the Holy Qur’an to enhance procedures for selecting and prioritizing defense-related projects. The methodology begins by reflecting on Qur’anic guidance relevant to engineering projects in general, with a particular focus on aerospace and defense engineering—such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and guided missiles.
The study reveals that Qur’anic directives commence with the purification of the human soul, and from there, extend toward the improvement of the Muslim society and the Ummah as a whole. In the context of defense projects, Allah (Glorified be He) has instructed us to begin with firm belief and conviction that victory is granted by Him, then to take all possible means and preparations within our capacity. Furthermore, we are commanded to consult experts ("the people of knowledge"), to engage in mutual consultation (shūrā), to verify information, and to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
Moreover, Allah has instructed us to embody the highest ethical conduct, to cooperate in righteousness and piety, and to enjoin one another to truth and patience. All these principles can significantly support institutions involved in defense development, contributing—by Allah’s will—to the success of their defense projects.

This research addresses a topic within the science of correspondences, namely the thematic unity of the Qur'anic surahs, through an applied model of Surat An-Nazi'at. The title of the research is as follows: "The Thematic Unity of Surat An-Nazi'at in Light of the Science of Correspondences: An Applied Study."
This research addresses the problem of what some believe to be contradictions or inconsistencies in the themes of the Qur'anic surahs due to their multiplicity and shifts between commands and prohibitions, promises and threats, stories and evidence, and other such topics. It also addresses the problem of the lack of attention to highlighting the uniqueness of the surah in its treatment of the general topic.
Therefore, this research, using an inductive, analytical, and deductive approach, aims to uncover the thematic unity of Surat An-Nazi'at, fulfilling its objectives and highlighting its uniqueness in addressing the issue of resurrection, which many Meccan surahs share in addressing, while also explaining the practical methods leading to this.
This research concluded that the study of the thematic unity of the Qur’anic surahs is based on examining the internal context of the surah, such as its name, opening, closing, and style, and then examining its external context, such as the time of its revelation, its revelation order and Qur’anic order, and other things. This research concludes that studying the thematic unity of the Quranic surahs is based on examining the internal contexts of the surah, such as its name, opening, conclusion, and style, followed by examining its external contexts, such as the time of its revelation, its order of revelation and the Qur'an, and other aspects. It reveals that the thematic unity of the surahs may be composed of several objectives (the complexities of the Surah), such that ignoring one of them leads to a loss of precise guidance to thematic unity. The research demonstrates that the thematic unity of Surat An-Nazi'at is composed of three objectives that constitute its specificity: affirming the resurrection day, which is its foundation; the tyranny of the unbelievers; and the rapid disappearance of the world. It shows that all the components of this noble surah and its internal contexts come together to signify these three complexities that constitute its thematic unity, such that the surah appears as a single construction.

This study was limited to the verses related to obstinacy (ʿinād), whether explicit expressions or those associated in meaning. The study aimed to clarify the meaning of obstinacy, to identify its types and causes, and to explore its resulting effects.
The researchers employed the inductive method, which is based on tracing the related verses and formulating main and subheadings considering them, as well as the deductive method by referring to the Qur’anic verses and deriving rulings and guidance that establish the phenomenon of obstinacy.
The main findings and recommendations of the research:
This study reached several findings, most notably:
- That obstinacy is a characteristic of many arrogant disbelievers, and it brings no good; often it destroys the person due to their stubbornness and rejection of the truth and its people.
- The causes and motives of obstinacy are numerous and present in every era, the most prominent of which are arrogance, following whims and desires, and hardness of the heart.
- The study concluded that obstinacy has effects on the individual and society, the most important of which are being deprived of contemplating the signs of Allah and incurring divine punishment.
The study recommended understanding the nature of the peoples mentioned in the Noble Qur’an in order to draw lessons and called for giving the subject of obstinacy greater attention in Qur’anic studies.

The report covered the proceedings of an international scientific conference titled: "The Objectives of the Holy Qur’an: Establishment and Application," organized by the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies in collaboration between the Departments of Theology and Jurisprudence and Its Principles at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
The conference was held from 18–19 Shawwal 1446 AH, corresponding to 16–17 April 2025 CE.
The conference addressed a significant topic concerning the objectives of the Qur’an, both in terms of their theoretical establishment and practical application, aiming to serve the Book of Allah, the Exalted, through understanding, contemplation, and implementation. The researcher chose to present the conference in Tadabbur journal due to its alignment with the magazine’s publication scope, objectives, vision, and mission.
The report highlighted several aspects, including the conference’s importance and its objectives, which can be summarized as follows:
- Establishing a clear concept of Qur’anic objectives, identifying their levels and types.
- Exploring the efforts of Muslim scholars in addressing Qur’anic objectives theoretically and practically.
- Formulating a theoretical framework for the methods of uncovering Qur’anic objectives and defining their guidelines.
- Highlighting the scholarly and interpretative impact of activating Qur’anic objectives.
- Examining the role of Qur’anic objectives in shaping the human being as a vicegerent (khalifa), guiding civilization, and fostering development.
These objectives reflect a deep commitment to advancing Qur’anic and objective-based research while connecting it to contemporary issues facing the Muslim community.

- Highlighting the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality technologies in serving the objectives of the Qur’an.
- Advocating for the organization of conferences and seminars focused on the objectives of Islamic law in general, and those of the Qur’an and Sunnah in particular.
The report also reviewed statistics and data related to various aspects, including: the total scientific output of the conference papers based on its themes, the countries of participating researchers, their academic ranks and affiliations, the types of participation (individual or collaborative), and the gender distribution (male, female, and mixed participation). These metrics, known as bibliometric analysis, were presented in a concise and simplified manner suitable for scientific reports, avoiding excessive elaboration.

We are pleased to present in the nineteenth issue of the peer-reviewed academic journal Tadabbur, in its tenth year, a report on a scholarly thesis as part of the journal’s commitment to publishing reports on theses, projects, and academic conferences. These efforts aim to enrich researchers with the latest developments in the academic field, strengthen the connection between scholarly research and the academic community, and accelerate the global dissemination of knowledge through a specialized, peer-reviewed platform focused on Quranic contemplation (tadabbur). This issue features a report on a master’s thesis titled: "The Semantics of Linguistic Structures and Their Impact on Quranic Contemplation: An Applied Study on Surah Yusuf." This thesis highlights the significance of tadabbur and its scholarly and practical applications. The thesis, submitted by the researcher Ghazi Ahmad Muhammad Dughmush at the World Islamic Sciences and Education University, addresses several topics. It begins by defining the concept of tadabbur, traces the emergence of the science of semantics in foundational Islamic texts, categorizes its three divisions after defining and comparing them, establishes the legitimacy of using semantics as evidence, and illustrates its impact on Quranic contemplation by broadening the scope of analyzing its linguistic expressions.
This thesis represents a valuable contribution to the field of Quranic studies and linguistics, as it explores the intrinsic relationship between the semantics of linguistic structures and the process of Quranic contemplation. The research derives its importance from its endeavor to establish a deeper understanding of the Quranic discourse, utilizing semantic tools to analyze the meanings derived from the text. As the thesis emphasizes, tadabbur is not merely a superficial reading but a profound reflective process that engages the intellect and insight to uncover the treasures of guidance, wisdom, and lessons within the Quran.
The researcher has defined the term tadabbur, clarified its linguistic and technical meanings as understood by Quranic exegetes, and outlined its scopes. He also defined the semantics of linguistic structures, distinguished their differences, identified their categories and principles, and noted the earliest scholars who documented them in foundational texts. The researcher established the connections between the discussions of linguistic semantics among scholars of Islamic jurisprudence (usuliyyin) and rhetoricians (bayaniyyin). In the applied section of the thesis, the second chapter is dedicated to an applied study of semantic contemplation of Surah Yusuf (peace be upon him), extracting dozens of contemplative insights through a systematic and disciplined methodology. The study resulted in 210 contemplative insights, one-third of which relate to the science of rhetoric (balagha), while two-thirds pertain to the field of semantics. This underscores the critical importance of the science of semantics in Quranic contemplation.
