Abstract

This report reviews a scholarly thesis through which the researcher earned a Master’s degree in Curricula and Instructional Methods (Islamic Sciences) in 1438 AH, under the supervision of Dr. Habbah bint Ahmad Muhammad Akram. The primary objective of the study was to measure the impact of a proposed instructional unit-designed according to the "Advance Organizers" strategy-on developing the foundations of Qur’anic contemplation (Tadabbur) among first-grade intermediate students at Qur’an Memorization Schools in Jeddah. This study emerges within the context of growing interest in field research that employs experimental methodologies to serve Qur’anic education and contemplation within the school environment.

The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental approach, constructing a comprehensive instructional unit and developing a teacher’s guide that includes auxiliary tools and references. The research sample consisted of 29 students, and the primary research instrument was an achievement test designed to measure the comprehension of contemplation concepts and foundations. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the pre-test and post-test scores in favor of the post-test, confirming the high efficacy of the proposed unit. Furthermore, the effect size reached a very high ratio of 81%, indicating that the utilized strategy contributed radically to improving the students' ability to understand and contemplate the verses.

The study concluded with vital practical recommendations, including the necessity of developing training programs for Qur’an teachers to ground the methodology of Tadabbur, and creating instructional guides that include means of activating contemplation during lessons. The researcher also called for a revision of the final evaluation grading system for the Qur’an curriculum to include an applied dimension for contemplation skills—rather than limiting it to rote memorization—while emphasizing the link between recitation, practical application, and the mental invocation of Qur’anic meanings.
