Report on the Fourth International Conference on Quranic Studies titled: "Justice and Benevolence in the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah"

Abstract

The Third World Conference on Quranic Studies, titled "Quranic Studies and Muslims in the West," was held at the British Islamic Heritage Centre in Manchester, UK, from July 31 to August 2, 2015 (15-17 Shawwal 1436 AH). Organized by the European Academy for Quranic Studies in collaboration with the University of Salford in the UK and the Saudi Scientific Society for the Holy Quran and Its Sciences "Tibyan," under the initiative of the Conference Management, it brought together scholars and researchers from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East to discuss the role of Quranic studies in enhancing the situation of Muslims in the West.

The conference focused on Quranic topics relevant to contemporary challenges, such as contemplating verses related to peaceful coexistence and intercultural dialogue, and utilizing the Quranic heritage to counter Islamophobia and strengthen Islamic identity in Western societies. Participants presented over 30 scientific papers, covering aspects like the impact of sound dialogue in calling for a cooperative humanistic world (Fayza Ahmed Al-Harbi), and emulating the Prophetic biography in building Muslim character in the West, along with workshops on contextual Quranic interpretation methodologies.

The event highlighted the importance of partnerships between British and Saudi academic institutions to disseminate Quranic studies globally, with an emphasis on educational programs for Muslim youth in Europe. It concluded with recommendations including the establishment of joint research centers and the publication of translated books on Quranic studies to foster civilizational dialogue. This conference represents a significant step in linking Islamic heritage with Western realities, contributing to building more tolerant and understanding societies.
