Different Styles in a Qur'anic Surah to Express its Message An applied study taking the case of Surah 19 “Maryam”
Main Article Content
Abstract
Subject:
Aims of the study
The study aims to identify the different styles used in a
Qur’anic surah to illustrate its message, through providing
answers to the following questions:
- What is meant by ‘the message of the surah’?
- What is meant by ‘styles of the Qur'anic surah’?
- Do stories, God’s fine names, Qur'anic maxims, cosmic signs,
divine laws and scenes of the Day of Resurrection portrayed
in the surah refer to its message?
Methodology
The nature of this research requires a two-pronged
approach. Therefore, the researcher used surveying and
analysis of the texts. He surveyed the surah to identify its verses related to the study. He then used the analytic
method to analyse the identified texts.
Main findings
- The message of the surah is the theme on which it focuses.
- Several ways may be used to identify the message of the
surah. Most important of these are: the surah’s name, its
merits, contemplation of its beginnings and ends, careful
consideration of words that repeatedly occur in the surah, and
a comprehensive look at the surah as a whole.
- The surah employs different approaches in putting its
message. These include: stories, God’s fine names, Qur'anic
maxims, cosmic signs, divine laws that apply to people,
scenes of the Day of Resurrection, and other approaches that
distinguish every surah.
Recommendations
I recommend that researchers should undertake further
studies of the styles used in Qur’anic surahs and how they
serve their messages.
