Abstract

This research aims to extract practical insights from the Holy Qur’an to enhance procedures for selecting and prioritizing defense-related projects. The methodology begins by reflecting on Qur’anic guidance relevant to engineering projects in general, with a particular focus on aerospace and defense engineering—such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and guided missiles.


The study reveals that Qur’anic directives commence with the purification of the human soul, and from there, extend toward the improvement of the Muslim society and the Ummah as a whole. In the context of defense projects, Allah (Glorified be He) has instructed us to begin with firm belief and conviction that victory is granted by Him, then to take all possible means and preparations within our capacity. Furthermore, we are commanded to consult experts ("the people of knowledge"), to engage in mutual consultation (shūrā), to verify information, and to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.


Moreover, Allah has instructed us to embody the highest ethical conduct, to cooperate in righteousness and piety, and to enjoin one another to truth and patience. All these principles can significantly support institutions involved in defense development, contributing—by Allah’s will—to the success of their defense projects.

an Honorable Associate Professor in the Department of Nationhood and Civilization Studies at UPM. He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK, and has been with UPM since 1995. Dr. Amini has served as Director of UPM’s Islamic Centre and Halal Studies in UPM and Malaysia. His research focuses on Islamic civilization, ethnic relations, and Muslim–non-Muslim interactions. He has published extensively on Islamic ethics, digital behavior, and interfaith engagement and is active in national discourse on integrity, leadership, and multicultural harmony.

He earned his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and both MSc and BSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace) from KFUPM. Formerly a faculty member at KFUPM and contributor to the National Program for Aeronautical Technologies at KACST, his expertise spans low-speed aerodynamics, flow control, and experimental fluid dynamics. Dr. Al-Garni has published extensively on wake flows and vehicle aerodynamics and led multiple R&D initiatives in the Saudi aerospace and defense sector.

Dr. Ezanee Bin Gires, Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)

 a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), specializing in propulsion systems and alternative fuels for aerospace applications. He earned his PhD in Aerospace Power and Propulsion from Cranfield University, UK, and holds an MSc from UPM and a BEng in Aerospace from IIUM. His research focuses on rotary- and fixed-wing performance, micro gas turbines, and biodiesel integration. Dr. Ezanee teaches courses in aerothermodynamics, propulsion, and space launch technology, and has contributed to international research on rotorcraft emissions through the Clean Sky initiative.

Dr. Syaril Azrad Md. Ali, Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering at UPM

 an Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering at UPM, where he teaches SE and supervises research in UAV systems and autonomous control. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Chiba University, Japan. Dr. Syaril has published several articles on SE and MBSE, especially in UAV development and integration. His research focuses on GPS-denied navigation, swarm control, and vision-based systems. He is an active member of AIAA, JSME, and AEROS Malaysia and has received international recognition for UAV-related innovations.
