The current study provides rooting for the subject of tawjeeh, which is the directing of the sayings of al-salaf in Quran interpretation. It also introduces an explanation of the concept of tawjeeh among the interpreters and distinguishes it from other similar terms. Moreover, it specifies the time when tawjeeh was originated in both terminology and practice, identifies the reasons for it, and indicates its methods and the resources that are relied upon in dealing with it. The study aims to explore the resources for directing the sayings of al-salaf that can be referred to in order to understand their sayings and to explain the methods that the interpreters used in tackling it, while highlighting the methodology of the most famous interpreters concerned with it, and clarifying the most important issues related to it in their books. Then, this study identifies rules for tawjeeh, and illustrates forms of mistakes in it, and highlights its impact on some Sharia sciences. Among the findings of this study are: the emergence of tawjeeh at an early time in the history of interpretation, during the era of the Followers of the Companions of the Prophet and the Followers of the Followers of the Companions of the Prophet. The study found that tawjeeh was associated with ambiguities since its appearance, its methods were characterized by abundance and multiplicity, and the resources of tawjeeh were not confined to the books of interpretation, but the modern interpreters participated in this work. The study also found that tawjeeh did not have a specific form or style among interpreters and the directives of the interpreters are rich materials in rooting for the science of Quran interpretation.
